Phuket is the largest island in Thailand which is located off the west coast of mainland. Phuket has an area of about 543 square kilometers. The length of the island, measured from north to south about 48.7 kilometers. And the width measured from east to west, about 21.3 kilometers. There are 3 district in Phuket: Mueang Phuket district in the south, Thalang district in the north and Kathu district in the center. The neighboring province of Phuket is Phang Nga province.
The island's beaches on the west coast are white sandy so lot of hotels and accommodation can be founded. But the beaches on the east coast more muddy beach.
How to get to Phuket
There are 3 major ways to reached Phuket, by bus, car, and air.
By car or bus From Bangkok, take Highway number 4 through Nakhon Pathom, Ratchaburi, Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan and Chumphon then straight to Ranong, From Ranong to Kra Buri, Kapur to Kuraburi, Takuapa once reaching Khokkloy (Phang Nga province) then cross Thao Thepkrasattri Bridge or Sarasin Bridge to enter Phuket. Total distance of about 817 kilometers.
By air There are many flights from Bangkok to Phuket operate daily by many airlines now. The flight takes 1 hour and 20 minutes.
Getting around Phuket

Limousine/Taxi service Limousine can be booked upon arrival for both private or joining van, but if you are coming during high season like New Year or Songkran period you may have to wait for long time. So advance booking for airport transfer in phuket is highly recommended.
Airport Bus Airport bus is leaving airport every hours and will direct you to Phuket Bus station which you will have to another to reach your destination (if you are not in the town) i.e. taxi, tuk tuk or local bus.
Local Bus (Song Taew) Local buses are stand by in Phuket town to go to beaches, it leaves every 15 minutes starts from 07.00 - 18.00 hours (this may difference depends on where to go). It costs between 20-50 Baht per person per way.
Tuk Tuk Getting around Phuket by Tuk Tuk is very common and easy, To call them you just stand on the road side then driver will keep asking "tuk tuk?" "where you go" Tuk Tuk fares very a lot depend on destination, I personally recommend that you agree the fare before using service.
